Paro, Bhutan - His Excellency Lyonpo Tshering, Home Minister launched the Integrated Digital Museum Management System (IDMMS) at the National Museum of Bhutan, Ta Dzong, Paro. The Museum Division, Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with GovTech this cutting-edge platform, designed and developed by a domestic software firm, Dragon Coders Private Limited is set to revolutionize museum operations in Bhutan, improving both internal collection management and public accessibility to the country's rich cultural heritage. The IDMMS is a comprehensive digital platform designed to serve as a centralized repository for managing museum collections across Bhutan’s key institutions, including the National Museum of Bhutan, Royal Heritage Museum, and Textile Museum. Its primary goal is to streamline collection management processes, enhance artifact preservation, and provide improved educational and research opportunities for scholars, museum staff, and visitors.
Key Features of the Integrated Digital Museum Management System:
Collections Management System (CMS): The CMS enables museums to digitize their entire collection, including cataloging, condition reporting, acquisitions, and loans, all from a unified platform. Through this system, museum artifacts will also be made accessible online, offering detailed descriptions, educational resources, and insight into Bhutan’s cultural assets. Additionally, the system features data-driven insights and analytics to assist in collection management decisions and is designed to be scalable and future-ready.
Museum Visitor Management System (MVMS): The MVMS is a digital solution aimed at enhancing visitor experience and optimizing museum operations. It includes electronic ticketing for a seamless entry process, real-time visitor flow management, and valuable analytics on demographics and revenue. By integrating technology with user-friendly features, the MVMS allows museums to provide a superior experience for both local and international visitors, while also gathering insights for ongoing improvements.
The IDMMS represents a collaborative initiative between DCDD & GovTech Agency. GovTech has provided the technical expertise and infrastructure, while the Museum Division contributed deep cultural knowledge and curatorial insights. Together, they aim to ensure that Bhutan’s museums not only protect cultural artifacts but also make them more accessible, interactive, and engaging in the digital era. “This project marks a significant leap forward in how we manage, preserve, and share Bhutan’s cultural heritage. The Integrated Digital Museum Management System will open new doors for education, research, and visitor engagement, both domestically and internationally,” said Tshering Uden Penjor, Chief of the Museum Division, DCDD. The launch of the IDMMS underscores Bhutan’s commitment to cultural preservation through innovation, ensuring that the nation’s treasures can continue to educate and inspire for generations to come.
