Conservation and Preservation

The National Museum of Bhutan maintains a conservation laboratory with climate control systems, secure storage, and specialized equipment for artifact preservation. The lab focuses on restoring and protecting historical objects made from metal, fabric, bamboo, pigments, animal tissue, and paper.

A team of trained conservators works with curators to analyze materials, assess deterioration, and implement preservation measures. Several conservators have received international training and assist other Bhutanese institutions with restoration projects.

Care is taken to ensure conservation methods monitor environmental conditions to minimize damage to artifacts. Documentation and material analysis support long-term preservation efforts.

Through these activities, the National Museum can preserve Bhutan's cultural heritage, ensuring the protection of significant historical and religious objects for future study and display.
